Hey there! I’m Kate, the Maker, and Mama and East Coast Canadian behind the hook (and the scenes) here at Hazel Bea & Hazel Bea on Etsy. I have always been a maker for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t learn to crochet until 7 years ago after a few incredibly difficult pregnancies. When my youngest daughter was born really really early I wasn’t able to return to my job, so I started an Etsy shop, dove in, and then crocheting kind of became my full-time gig.
So who is Hazel Bea? Good question, people call me Hazel all of the time, but it is actually my grandma’s middle name, and nope she didn’t teach me how to crochet. I actually didn’t even really know her, she died when I was 16 but lived most of my life in a nursing home, but I was super close to my grandpa (her husband) who I so wish was alive today because he would have been a huge Pinterest junkie! growing up it would be nothing for him to show up at the door with a new easel he had built because he heard I was taking painting lessons. So Hazel is for him because “Bob” just doesn’t have the same ring. Bea is for my maiden name — Bird, I had always planned on keeping my maiden name but… Bird-Hunter (you get it) so Bea is for B for Bird. Now you know….
Over the past year, I have been working with people who are interested in selling their products online, through coaching and workshops in my local area, as well as running Etsy Made in Canada Markets across the province for New Brunswick Etsy Sellers.
So, whether you are looking for a fun new crochet project, tips for rocking craft markets, to learn how to get your Etsy shop off the ground, or just a dose of my average everyday maker life, we’ve got ya covered!
